JEE Main 2026 Coordination Compounds Practice Questions with Solutions

Some of the key solved examples of JEE Main 2026 Coordination Compounds section have been provided below.

Q1. Which complex will exhibit linkage isomerism?

(a) [Co(NH3)5NO2]2+[Co(NH₃)₅NO₂]^{2+}[Co(NH3)5NO2]2+

(b) [Cr(NH3)6]3+[Cr(NH₃)₆]^{3+}[Cr(NH3)6]3+

(c) [Ni(CO)4][Ni(CO)₄][Ni(CO)4]

Answer: (a) because NO₂⁻ can bind via N or O → nitro/nitrito forms.

Q2. Calculate the oxidation state of the central atom in [Pt(NH3)2Cl2][Pt(NH₃)₂Cl₂][Pt(NH3)2Cl2].

Solution:

x + 2(0) + 2(–1) = 0 → x = +2.

Answer: Pt = +2.

Q3. Among the following, which are optical isomers?

(a) [Co(en)3]3+[Co(en)₃]^{3+}[Co(en)3]3+

(b) [Co(NH3)6]3+[Co(NH₃)₆]^{3+}[Co(NH3)6]3+

(c) [CrCl2(ox)2]3−[CrCl₂(ox)₂]^{3-}[CrCl2(ox)2]3−

Solution: (a) and (c) show optical isomerism due to chiral geometry.

Answer: (a), (c)

Q4. How many geometrical isomers exist for [Co(NH3)4Cl2]+[Co(NH₃)₄Cl₂]^+[Co(NH3)4Cl2]+?

Solution: It’s an octahedral complex of the type [MA₄B₂].

→ Two isomers: cis and trans.

Answer: 2 isomers.

Q5. The coordination number of Co in [Co(NH3)6]Cl3[Co(NH₃)₆]Cl₃[Co(NH3)6]Cl3 is:

(a) 3

(b) 4

(c) 5

(d) 6

Solution: 6 NH₃ molecules are directly bonded to Co³⁺ → coordination number = 6.

Answer: (d) 6

Dear Student,

A PCB student can pursue BCA admission at Ambalika Institute of Management and Technology (AIMT), Lucknow, if they have passed Class 12 from a recognized board with at least 45-50% aggregate marks (with possible relaxation for reserved categories) and crucially studied Mathematics as a subject in 10+2, as pure PCB without Maths typically disqualifies candidates for this computer applications program. The process is merit-based, involving online application via the AIMT website, document submission (Class 10/12 marksheets, ID proofs, photos), possible entrance test or interview, fee payment, and final verification. Candidates should verify current-year details directly from the official …

Dear Student,

Ambalika Institute of Management and Technology (AIMT), often referred to as Ambalika University in Lucknow context, does not offer a BTech in Biomedical Engineering; instead, it provides BTech in Biotechnology (Biological Engineering) and related specializations like BTech Biotech, which typically require PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) in Class 12 with a minimum 45-50% aggregate for eligibility via JEE Main/UPTAC counseling. PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) students generally do not qualify for standard BTech engineering programs at AIMT, as explicit criteria mandate Mathematics alongside Physics and Chemistry, though some biomedical programs elsewhere accept PCB. Ambalika's biotech course follows PCM norms without …
