JEE Main 2026 Mathematics High Priority and Low Priority Chapters

The JEE Main 2026 Mathematics High Priority and Low Priority Chapters are a combination of the Classes 11th and 12th Science curriculum. The Mathematics section of the entrance test is considered the most difficult, time-consuming, and tricky of all. It also holds a good weightage in the JEE Main exam, and therefore, students are always advised to target securing the maximum score from this section. The high-priority chapters like Vector Algebra, 3D Geometry, Binomial Theorem, etc., have high weightage. Students who can answer all the high-priority topics will have the best chance of yielding a good score in the JEE Main exam. Some of the low-priority topics include Probability, Parabola, Trigonometric Equations, etc. The nature of the questions is numerical-type problems and mixed-concept applications. The NTA will be conducting the JEE Main 2026 Session 1 from January 21 to 30, 2026.

The high-priority topics in the JEE Main Mathematics hold around 70% weightage in the entire paper collectively. About 15 to 30 questions are expected to be featured on the Mathematics section of the entrance exam. While students must focus their attention on properly covering the high-weightage topics first, they must not leave out the low-priority topics in the process. These low-weightage chapters fill in the gaps whenever a student fails to answer a high-weightage question. These are equally important to answer along with the questions of high value. Interestingly, there are a few very scoring chapters among the top-priority topics as well, wherein questions are usually direct and formula-based, offering high return for low effort.

Students who wish to secure a good score in the JEE Main 2026 Mathematics section must refer to the detailed preparation strategies provided here for their reference. These tips and tricks will allow them to approach the entrance test with a foolproof plan of how to cover the syllabus, which chapters to focus on, and how to maximise their time utilisation strategically and practically.

  • Students must start their preparation strategy by creating a topic-wise study plan from the highest to lowest priority chapters.
  • It is important to practice and solve at least 70 previous years’ questions for each topic to understand the nature of questions, frequency, and which sections to cover first.
  • To remember the different formulae by heart, students must use the method of creating their own short notes and take the help of flashcards.
  • The practical problems must be written down to strengthen the memory each time a student is learning them.
  • Regularly revise the newly learned topics, as well as the previously learned concepts to keep the memory fresh, and avoid overstuffing your brain.
  • Another important technique to solidify the preparation process is to take mock tests every week to check one’s progress.
  • Last but not least, students must replay the newly learned concepts and formulas in their minds before going to bed to keep the knowledge intact the next morning.
