Delhi University Improves in QS World Sustainability Rankings 2026The ranking of Delhi University has witnessed a significant improvement in the QS World Sustainability Rankings 2026 this year. It has been placed at the 241st position, surpassing the rankings of IITs and other esteemed universities. Earlier, the university was placed at the 299th position in the same ranking list. The University of Delhi has improved its position by rising 58 places from 299 to 241 globally. This marks a significant milestone for the university, as no other university has achieved a ranking in the Top 200 of the QS World Sustainability Rankings 2026.
The top-ranked Indian university has been ranked as IIT Delhi at the 205th position this year, which was placed at the 171st position in 2025. Similarly, IIT Bombay has been placed at 235th and IIT Kharagpur at the 236th positions respectively. The rankings are determined by factors like environmental and social impact, academic excellence, and overall governance. Institutes that reflect a strong institutional performance and are consistent over the years with their efforts have a high chance of being placed within the top 200 best universities in the QS World Sustainability Rankings.
This year, over 2,000 universities have participated in the QS World Rankings wherein DU has been ranked among the top 4 institutions in India, top 36 universities in Asia, and the only Indian institution within the national top 5 that has significantly improved its position in one year. Moreover, India has been placed in the 4th position globally for representation, and over 100 Indian universities have been nominated this year for the World Rankings. Among the list, around 32 universities have improved their overall rankings from last year, while 30 others have visibly performed lower than last year.
