Odisha Board Class 5 and 8 Examination: The Odisha Board has announced a new system for the Class 5 and 8 students who fail in their annual exams. As per the policy, students failing to get the minimum passing marks will not be promoted immediately. However, the government will provide remedial coaching to support them in raising their learning levels. This move is a part of the state’s effort to enhance foundational education and reduce learning gaps among students in schools.

The remedial coaching will be conducted for a period of 4 to 6 weeks . During this period, Teachers will concentrate on the weakest areas of every student and pay them extra attention in the form of small group teaching, worksheets, and periodical tests. The idea is to ensure that concepts are clearer for students before going to the re-exam. The schools would also keep track of the progress of every student during this period.

The students, after completing the remedial coaching, shall appear for a re-exam , which will be conducted within two months of the declaration of the result under the annual system. The re-exam will be conducted on the pattern of the main annual examination. Those who clear the re-exam will normally be promoted to the next class. This way, everyone has an equal opportunity to make a second attempt.

But, if a candidate fails the re-exam this time, he/she will be retained in the class for one more year . The government has made it clear that no student will be forced to leave school, but they can be held back to make sure they meet the necessary standards of learning. Authorities said the system would enable students to get a stronger educational foundation before advancing to higher classes.

The new decision is intended to raise the quality of education in Odisha and to never allow the students to jump over classes when they have huge gaps in learning. This remedial coaching programme is expected to help weak students and bring about an overall improvement in government school education.
