Tamil Nadu School Holiday Update 20 November 2025 : The weather situation in Tamil Nadu is slowly improving, but the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has still issued a yellow alert for most districts, warning of continued heavy rainfall in some areas. As a result, schools in districts like Mayiladuthurai and Cuddalore might remain closed on November 20, 2025, due to the low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal and adjoining Kumari Sea.

According to IMD officials, the low-pressure system is expected to persist and move west-northwest, bringing heavy rain to Mayiladuthurai and Cuddalore, while Chennai can expect moderate showers. The situation is likely to improve gradually, but authorities are closely monitoring the weather conditions.

The IMD has warned fishermen to exercise extreme caution as squally weather with wind speeds reaching 40 kmph to 50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph, will prevail over the Andaman Sea, adjoining parts of Southeast, and Eastcentral Bay of Bengal. The rough seas and strong winds pose a significant threat to fishing operations, and fishermen are advised to stay alert and avoid venturing into the sea until further notice. Those already at sea are advised to return to the coast immediately and exercise extreme caution. The IMD has also advised parents and students to stay updated with official announcements and weather forecasts, and to follow safety guidelines to avoid any potential risks.
