InSPA International Conference 2026 at CUTN

The 14th InSPA International Conference 2024, organised by the Department of Applied Psychology and the Department of Education at the Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN), will be held from October 24 to 26, 2024, in Thiruvarur. The conference focuses on "Research Prospects in School Psychology" and is sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR). Dr. L. Murugan, Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, will inaugurate the event on October 24, 2024, at 11:00 AM. The conference will explore psycho-social challenges faced by children and promote inclusive education through workshops, student assemblies, and awards ceremonies.

CUTN Celebrates World Environment Day with Tree Planting Initiative

The Department of Mathematics at the Central University of Tamil Nadu conducted a tree-planting initiative supported by Tamil Nadu Forest Department on June 5, 2024. Nearly 100 tree saplings were planted at the University campus adjacent to the Mathematics Department. The tree planting initiative was spearheaded by Dr A Chandrashekharan, Assistant Professor, Dept of Mathematics, along with a team of faculties and students.

The event was inaugurated by Prof. Dr M Krishnan, the Vice-Chancellor. Prof. Dr R Thirumurugan, the Registrar; CA GR Giridharan, the Finance Officer; Prof. Dr Sulochana Shekhar, the Controller of Examinations; Dr R Parameshwaran, the Librarian; and Mr LCS Srikanth, the DFO of Thiruvarur. Alongside them, several senior professors associated with the Mathematics Training and Talent Search Programme, such as Prof. S Kumaresan, Prof. G Santhanam, Prof. T Sengadir, Prof. Renuka Devi, and Dr A Chandrashekaran, lent their support to the green initiative.

Eighth Convocation of Central University of Tamil Nadu

CUTN will be conducting its 8th Convocation on May 29, 2024, at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Nagakudi Campus, Thiruvarur. The ceremony will start at 11 am. The convocation will be led by the Honourable Chancellor of CUTN and Padma Bhushan Awardee, Prof. G. Padmanaban. The event will also be attended by Prof. M. Krishnan, Vice Chancellor; Prof. R. Thirumurugan, Registrar; CA GR Giridharan, Finance Officer; Prof. Sulochana Shekhar, Controller of Examinations; and Dr. R Parameshwaran, Librarian. During the convocation, students will be awarded their respective degrees.

CUTN Launches Basic Skill Enhancement Programme

One year anniversary for lending library of the Department of Economics at the Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) was celebrated at Neelakudi Panchayat School. The inaugural event was conducted by the CUTN department of Economics which marked the beginning of a 15-day Basic Skill Enhancement Programme focused on developing key skills in school students. The vice chancellor of CUTN, Prof. M. Krishnan, called on students and faculty to supercharge their community outreach efforts. He also highlighted CUTN as a mini-India, boasting a diverse student and faculty population stretching from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. The registrar of CUTN, Prof R. Thirumurugan, also applauded students for actively promoting literacy.

CUTN Welcomes Government School Students for a Glimpse into Higher Education

Over 1000 government school students in Tamil Nadu's Thiruvarur district visited the Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) to learn about applying and cracking CUET exam and explored CUTN facilities. A committee of authorities and faculty members, including Prof R. Thirumurugan, Registrar, Prof Sulochana Shekhar, Controller of Examination, Prof. P Srinivasan, Dr. Kanagarathinam, Dr. Mansoor Ali, Dr. Suganya, and Mrs. Prema led the event. The exposure visit was organised to familiarise the students with the admission process through CUET and the facilities provided at CUTN. The Vice Chancellor of CUTN encouraged the students to aim high and assured them of support in their academic journey. This exposure visit was conducted to provide an environment to rural students conducive to academic excellence.

CUTN Signs MOU with ChargePal Pty Ltd

Central University of Tamil Nadu has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ChargePal Pty Ltd. The collaboration will result in joint initiatives in short term courses, long term courses, collaborative research in areas of common interest. Further, the MoU will also facilitate collaborative academic events such as workshops, seminars etc. that will help in enhancing skills of teachers and students at CUTN.

The MoU signing ceremony was presided over by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. M Krishnan and Mr. Bruno Lambla, co-founder of chargepal. They both joined via online mode. CUTN’s senior faculty members were also present during the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. M Krishnan, Vice Chancellor of CUTN, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, "This MOU represents a commitment to excellence in education, research, and technology. Through this partnership with ChargePal, we (CUTN) aim to nurture a dynamic learning ecosystem that prepares our students for the challenges of the future."

CUTN Hosts Valedictory Event of All India South Zone Inter University Women's Kho Kho Tournament 2023-2026

CUTN hosted the grand finale of the All India South Zone Inter University Kho Kho Tournament for Women on December 30, 2023. The five-day sporting event, which began on December 26, 2023, saw participation from 62 university teams and 930 players. The University of Mysore emerged as the winner, followed by the University of Calicut, University of Kerala, and Bharathiyar University, all of whom have qualified to represent the South Zone in the forthcoming National All India Inter University Women's Tournament.

The valedictory ceremony was held under the patronage of Prof M. Krishnan, Vice Chancellor of CUTN, with Prof G. Ravi, Vice Chancellor of Alagappa University, as the chief guest. The winners and runners-up were awarded shields and certificates by Prof M. Krishnan, Prof G. Ravi, and Prof R Thirumalaisamy, Former VC TNPES. The successful execution of the tournament was credited to the meticulous planning and efforts of Prof D Maniazhagu, organiser, Dr. S. Jayaraman, organising secretary, and other dedicated faculty members.

CUTN's Geology Department Hosts Seminar on Sustainable Solutions to Waterlogging and Geological Exploration

The Department of Geology, School of Earth Sciences at the Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) recently hosted a seminar series titled "Geological Exploration and Opportunities." Prof. M. Krishnan, Vice Chancellor of CUTN, inaugurated the seminar, addressing the significant flooding in Chennai due to Cyclone Michaung and emphasising the need for sustainable solutions to challenges like waterlogging.

During the seminar, the Department of Geology’s logo and newsletter, "Earth Saga", was introduced by Prof. Krishnan and chief guest Prof. Ganapathy Shanmugham from the University of Texas. Archaeologist Mr. TVK Rajan shared insights about prehistoric humans who inhabited what is now known as Kosasthlaiaaru near Chennai, encouraging students to visit the site for a deeper understanding of prehistoric life. Mr. Vetriselan, Director of Revenue and Margin Management, provided hands-on training on data analytics. The event was organised by Dr. Guru Balamurugan, Head, Department of Geology, and was attended by Prof Sulochana Shekhar, Dean of the School of Earth Sciences, along with students, faculty, and staff of the department.

CUTN and Competition Commission of India Collaborate for Insightful Lecture Series on Competition Law

The Central University of Tamil Nadu's Department of Law, in partnership with the Competition Commission of India, recently hosted a lecture series on the critical aspects of competition law. The event featured a special lecture by V. Sriraj, Joint Director and in-charge, Regional Office (South), Competition Commission of India. 

Prof. M Krishnan, Vice Chancellor, during his presidential address the importance of disseminating legal knowledge to the general public and advocating for public lectures that unravel the nuances of law. He emphasised the crucial role of competition law in promoting healthy competition among businesses and protecting public and societal interests against monopolistic practices. V. Sriraj, in his keynote address, stressed the importance of balancing governance and regulation for the nation's economic growth. He advocated for granting freedom to business owners while ensuring consumer benefits and conducting stringent checks to prevent malpractice.

CUTN Raises Awareness on Antimicrobial Resistance Through Conference and Flashmob

The Central University of Tamil Nadu conducted the World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week, a global initiative by the World Health Organization (WHO), from November 18 to 24, 2023. The week-long campaign, organised by the Department of Microbiology, aimed to raise awareness about the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance and the importance of responsible antibiotic use.

The event was inaugurated by Prof. M Krishnan, Vice Chancellor of CUTN. Prof. E.M Shankar, Dean of the School of Life Sciences, highlighted the alarming impact of infectious microorganisms developing resistance to antimicrobial medicines. He emphasised the increased risk of disease spread and severe illness due to this resistance.

Dr. Ravanan, Head of the Department of Microbiology, addressed the factors contributing to antimicrobial resistance, including self-medication with antibiotics and misuse of drugs. He urged students to adhere to best practises when using antimicrobial medicines. Over 200 students from Thiruvarur and Mannargudi schools visited the microbiology department. They were given a tour of the microbiology department and hands-on experience with the university's advanced facilities.  

In a bid to extend the reach of the awareness week, a flash mob was organised at the Old Bus Stand in Tiruvarur by the Microbiology Department students. The flash mob aimed to engage the public and spread crucial information about the dangers of antimicrobial resistance. Dr. Kaushik Rajaram, Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology, led the organisation of the conference and the flash mob. He expressed his commitment to fostering awareness about the critical issue of antimicrobial resistance within the academic community and beyond.

CUTN Honours India's First Education Minister on National Education Day

The Central University of Tamil Nadu's School of Education celebrated National Education Day on Friday, November 17, 2023, in honour of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, India's first Education Minister. 

The event was marked by a presidential address by Prof. M. Krishnan, the Vice Chancellor of CUTN. Prof. Krishnan emphasised the importance of extending higher education beyond the walls of the institution and into the community. He asserted that the true value of education is realised when its excellence is utilised for societal development.  

Drawing inspiration from Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Prof. Krishnan urged the audience to respect their culture, tradition, and the knowledge passed on by previous generations. He highlighted the Indian knowledge system, using the example of the Tanjore dolls to illustrate the message that no matter how unfavourable situations are, one will not be down forever and will surely rise up again. He encouraged students to get Tanjore dolls as a constant symbol of motivation.

The keynote speech was given by Prof. P Sivakumar, Senior Professor and Head of the Education Department at Alagappa University Prof. Sivakumar acknowledged the significant contributions of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad to the field of education, particularly his foundational work in primary, secondary, and tertiary education. He stressed the importance of combining knowledge with a positive attitude for societal betterment.

The National Education Day programme was organised by Prof. P Srinivasan, Dean, School of Education, along with his dedicated team of faculty, including Dr. Narayana Raju, Dr. Bhimappa Rangannavar, Dr. Poornima Rajendran, Dr. Biju K, Dr. Pramila Ramani, and Mr. Sunil Kumar. The event served as a reminder of the importance of education in society and the need to honour and continue the legacy of India's first education minister.

CUTN Conducts Training to Empower Marginalised Farmers

The Central University of Tamil Nadu, in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, conducted a two-day training programme on October 16 and 17, 2023, for farmers in Thiruvarur. The programme, named "Prospects of Value Addition in Livestock Products," was specifically hosted for the benefit of marginalised communities such as scheduled castes and women.

The event was inaugurated by Prof. M. Krishnan, the Vice Chancellor of CUTN. He emphasised the importance of farming in India and how proper training could enhance farmers' income and empower women and vulnerable sections of society. More than 100 farmers across Thiruvarur District actively participated in this training.

The training programme featured a panel of experts, including Prof. Natarajan Gopalan, Head, Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, Dr. Sujith Kumar Behera, Prof. Ram Rajasekaran, and Dr. Ramakrishna from CUTN, as well as Dr. Kathirchelvan from Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University and Dr. K Swaminathan, General Manager of the Circle Audit Office in Hyderabad. 

The experts shared insights on various farming techniques, secondary agriculture, the value addition of livestock products, and credit opportunities for livestock-based small enterprises. They also discussed quality control measures, scaling up good husbandry practises, and ensuring local livestock products reach local, national, and international markets. The local administration, along with the Farmers' Training and Research Centre (FRTC) and Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS), played a key role in the success of the programme.

CUTN Inaugurates Innovative Census Data Research Workstation

On October 12, 2023, in Thiruvarur, the Central University of Tamil Nadu and the office of the Directorate of Census Operations inaugurated a state-of-the-art workstation for research on census data. This follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed on May 10, 2023, which led to the establishment of a specialised research centre focused on census data.

Sanjeev Kumar ISS, Additional Registrar General, emphasised the importance of census data in shaping marketing strategies and academic research, assuring that individual data remains confidential. Sajjansingh R Chavan I.A.S, Director, Directorate of Census Operations, highlighted the potential of microdata for academicians. Prof. R. Thirumurugan, Registrar of CUTN, highlighted the workstation's unique capabilities, providing access to sample microdata at both national and state levels. Prof. Sulochana Shekhar, Dean, School of Earth Sciences, celebrated the collaboration as a pivotal step towards unlocking the potential of census data for research and decision-making. 

The inaugural session was attended by statutory officers of CUTN, senior faculty members, and Ms. Subha VK, Deputy Director, Census Operation Tamil Nadu. A series of technical lectures were conducted post-inauguration to train participants in the use of micro-level census data for research.

CUET Political Science syllabus 2026: The syllabus for CUET 2026 exams has been released by NTA, allowing students to prepare well in advance for the CUET UG 2026 exam. CUET Political Science syllabus 2026 is divided into two sections: "Politics in India since Independence" and "Contemporary World Politics". It has 16 units, with 9 units in the first section and 7 in the second. The units cover a wide range of topics related to international events and Indian politics.
